■ Author : Hideo TAKASE ■ History : Born in born in Asahikawa in 1948, and from his childhood, he trained himself in wood carving and tried to create simple folk crafts. In 1980,' Mokubori Tatese' (wood carving) was opened. He won 7 prizes at the Shusaku Asahikawa Folk Crafts Exhibition. He won 9 prizes at the Hokkaido Shusaku Folk Crafts Exhibition. The pronunciation of' Enju' leads to' Enju' and' Enju,' and it uses the lucky tree "Enju" which brings longevity and good relationships. He created "Yoshitori Blakiston's fish owl" (The Lucky Bird) to which the characters of' Fuyu' (No Hardship) and' Hachiro' (Fukurai) are applied. Blakiston's fish owl is a rare bird in northern Hokkaido. Hideo Takase, a wood-carving artist who is active in Hokkaido, is particular about local materials and motifs, and he carved it in a dignified figure. It is a work carved out of a single tree making use of the wood grain of the material.
